A Tale of Two Stuffed Puppy Dogs: A Brother's Love in "the wait"

In August of 2014, we had just received our "Letter Seeking Confirmation" from China notifying us we had been officially approved to adopt Micah! This is a huge step in the adoption process! Not only did it indicate we would likely travel to get our boy in the fall of that year, it also meant that we had reached the point when we could send him a care package. As parents who had already been working and waiting for 7 months, this was such a joy to us!

I made a nice little photo scrapbook for Micah with pictures of the whole family, our home and his room. But we also had hoped to send Micah a toy. Off we marched to Toys-R-Us, because where else would first time parents (children of the 80's ourselves) go to buy their son his first toy?!?! We searched the aslie of stuffed animals for much longer than necessary and finally decided on this cute little stuffed puppy!

Alas, the overthinker in me worried that after Micah received his puppy, that it might get lost in his orphanage and not make it back home with us. So we decided to get 2 puppies, one to mail to China, and the other to take there in our luggage just in case. We brought them home, labeled one of the tags with Micah's Chinese name and took our package to FedEx the next day. Well, long story short, in the end neither puppy was sent to China per the advice of a helpful Fedex employee who foresaw possible issues with customs.

In late October, we packed a puppy in our luggage and flew to China to get our boy. Then on one of the best days of our lives, October 20th 2014, the day we met Micah, his puppy was waiting to comfort him during his first night with us. I'm so thankful that we snapped a photo of this moment!

Fast forward to an evening just few days ago, when I was rocking my now 7 year old boy during and emotional moment. It is in these moments when he is often full of questions about his history. The topics that evening were "China Mom and China Dad", why they had to leave him, and worry that sister will miss her China Mom and Dad too! After tackling these heavy subjects, Micah had just a couple more questions, "When you give me my puppy?" and "Why I have two puppies?" Once again I explained the origin of the two puppies, after which he seemed satisfied and off to bed we went.

A couple mornings later we were on the way to school, and quite suddenly I hear my sweet, sweet boy exclaim from the back seat, "Momma, I know! I give Sister my other puppy!"
[Insert all the goo goo eyes, heart emojis and tearful sighs here!]

For this reason and more, I am convinced that my boy is going to be the best big brother, and love and care for his little sister so well! We are ALL so eager to welcome her into the family!
